Notes 9.0.1 issues on Ubuntu 14.04

  • Release: 9.0.1
  • Role: End User

I am running 14.04.1 LTS, Trusty Tahr with Notes Revision 20131022.0932 (Release 9.0.1).

When I start up Notes, I get the "Discover" page and it displays correctly. Then an empty dialog box pops up with just a "Critical" icon and no text. The title of the dialog is "Discover - IBM Notes". Since "OK" is the only button, I click it. Then I switch tabs to the "Mail" tab. Another empty dialog appears with the title "Notes View - IBM Notes". A similar thing happens when I click on the "Calendar" tab. Closing the tabs and reopening them has the same effect.

Now what bothers me is not so much the annoying dialogs, but the fact that the actual emails and calendar entries do not display. The tab is completely unusable afterwards. Restarting Notes or the computer has no effect on this.

The only workaround that I have found that actually fixes it is rather absurd:

- Go to File -> Preferences -> Windows and Themes and switch out the theme

- Go back to the same place and switch it back to the "Operating System Theme"

- Restart notes

And even this workaround doesn't work every time. Sometimes I have to do this 3 or 4 times before I can actually use Notes. Please help. I don't even know where to look for possible solutions - none of the posts here seem to have anything to do with this problem (as far as I can tell).

My experience is, Install it using KDE and then..
My experience is - since I over a year ago had troublers installing IBM Notes 9, on Linux Mint 16 Mate and now repeated this for Linux Mint 17, the following:
  • Install Notes using KDE (and also FixPacks later, without using Smart Installer script, but GDEBI or Synaptics Package Mngr)
  • Then install the Mate desktop, to coexist with KDE (not on the same time, of course)
  • Logoff/Logon into Mate desktop
  • Start using Notes 9 in there. Its far more stable, and I have even had success with Lotus Script Debugging in there.

Cheers
Peter
