"Select Addresses" dialog empty using iNotes

Got an issue in iNotes where if a user (any user) opens the "Select Addresses" dialog by clicking on the To/Cc/Bcc buttons in an email the "Search results" area of the dialog permanently shows the "This view is likely being updated..."  Never populates no matter how long you wait.  We're on 9.0.1 FP4.  Looks like this:

This has probably been going on forever.  While we're big into Traveler, we've only had a couple of users connecting with iNotes, typically occasional use from home.  I've now got a user on iNotes more frequently who spotted the issue.

NOTE: typing in addresses straight into the To/Cc/Bcc blank on the email works fine, and will show both contacts in the user's personal address book as well as matching hierarchical addresses in the Domino Directory, like this in the ambigious name dialog:

So the big question is, why doesn't the "Select Addresses" dialog box ever populate?  Does it pull from LDAP and not directly from the Domino Directory when accessed in iNotes (though LDAP is running on the server).

The issue extends to the "Other Mail" and "Other Calendar" functionality where the same dialog box is used.  It's isn't even possible to type in names in this case and have anything happen.  The same "Other Mail" access succeeds as expected using the full Notes client.

Feels like some sort of rights issue that affects iNotes alone.  Any insight/suggestions where to look? Because I've tried and failed so far.

Question

Are you directory assistance?    Does it work using a Notes client?

No DA, yes works on client

We're a small shop with one mail server on the domain admin server.  Because of that Directory Assistance has never been configured on it, but I just did.  I think I have to restart the server to finish the change.  That won't happen until after hours.

Yes, everything works fine in Client and always has.  In fact, as you can see in the second screenshot on my original forum posting some types of address lookups appear to be resolving via the server even using iNotes.

In iNotes if you simply type in any form of a Notes recipients' names/addresses in an email address field you can click on the "Search Directory For" choice in the address auto-completion popup and it will correctly return anybody in the Directory.  For example:

If I click on "Search Directory for: "hoff"" it returns the following, which includes items both local and from the directory (BTW, this example contains a user who isn't in my personal Contacts nor "Recent Contacts" list.)

So lookups in iNotes work unless a user clicks on the "To/Cc/Bcc" links in a new email and open the "Select Addresses" dialog.  That dialog never properly populates with the expected directory choices and shows the dreaded "view is being updated" notice forever.

I'll see if the DA setup affects anything after server restart.

Oh

What address book gets display by default?  If it is the personal then the user needs to switch to the server address book.  You should not need da for inotes to work.  Was going to suggest running updall on names.nsf if  client did not work.    Running updall  on  names.nsf -R  (uppercase) off hours will rebuild the views  http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21085954

Makes no difference

It shows the company address book by default.  However, the "Search results" mini-view in the "Select Addresses" (inside iNotes only) still does not populate after updall on names.nsf -R.  As shown in my previous posts, it forever says "This view is likely being updated..."

I'm going to dig through the design of the 9.0.1 mail template and see what is the name of the view in "names.nsf" that is embedded in that dialog when using iNotes.  Company directory is based on ver 9.0.1 template, BTW.

Everything else works fine, especially in Notes client.  I've got users with "Other mail" access to multiple people's mail dbs and contacts, no problem.  Just can't do it in iNotes

Browser?

What browser are you using? Have you tried Firefox?

It works here under FP3 (I was actually waiting on FP5 - now I'm not so sure..) - but we do have multiple users with newer versions of IE that still seem to have issues with things. ...

Problem exists on every browser I've tried

Firefox is our primary browser (v 42), but the issue also exists with IE 11 and the latest version of Chrome (47.x.xxx.xx as).  All on Windows 7/8.  Names successfully resolve in iNotes in the Directory so long as they are simply typed in the To/Cc/Bcc line.  It is the dialog box to search names in the Directory that does not work, regardless of browser.

Solved

"Maximum Internet name and password" on the Advanced tab of the ACL for names.nsf was set to "No Access".  I set it to "Reader", and now the dialog in iNotes populates correctly.

As mentioned in an earlier post, we've never had iNotes users, and I had internet access to the Directory blocked.  I use the full Admin client and not the web admin to administer the domain.  And my philosophy is to lock everything down and grant rights only as needed.  Guess now they're needed.  My bad.

Interesting that Traveler functions properly without internet-level names.nsf access, because I've done plenty of lookups into the directory using the Contacts portion of the IBM Verse Android and iPhone apps.  It must be accessing the directory info via the traveler task on the back end and passing it through via it's own protocol.

Glad you found it!  I've had my security settings bite me a time or two!
