Mac El Capitan errors going to Background

We are mostly a windows platform but I do have 2 Mac's.  1 Recently upgraded to El Capitan and has been having issues.  The main problem is that the Error dialogs are going to the background giving the appearance that Lotus is locked up.  This usually happens when the user leaves Lotus Notes open and closes the lid to put his laptop into sleep mode,  but has happened at other times as well.  When he opens it back up Lotus immediately tries to connect,  even though Wifi hasn't been established yet,  and throws and error that the domino server can not be contacted.  Problem is that this error message is hidden behind the Notes application and cannot be seen.  So when Wifi is connected and the user tries to use Notes no matter where he clicks it give the appearance that Noted is locked up because it will not respond to the clicking and just "dings" at him,  however thats because there's a error dialog that cannot be seen.  The only way to get to and acknowledge the error dialog is to right click on the Lotus icon on the toolbar and it will show 2 windows and select the second one when will bring the dialog to the front.   Anyone know why the error dialogs would be going to the background instead of coming to the foreground and how to fix this?

Do you see the same behavior with alarms or notifications?

I was wondering if you are seeing the same thing with alarms or notifications? If you have the Notes client configured to display alarms, do they come to the foreground?

You should check the used Notes client version. Sounds for me...
...that you do not use the newest 64bit Notes client for OS X.
