The message list view can be set to display

1) 3 lines per mail: sender / subject / first line of body

2) 1 line: sender + subject (this can be enabled in the Mail and Calendar settings, "Display each message as one line in the message list."

In terms of user experience, because sender names and subject lines can be long and the first line of body is most of the time not so relevant, please implement a 3rd option (or change option 1) such as

3) 2 lines per mail: sender / subject
