Archiving archives

Hi Everyone,

Current setup we are using: a dedicated server for server based archiving. All users mails are assigned to Archive policy set with criteria Older than 100 days.

Some of archives are already quite big. We enabled also DAOS to make them smaller, but we were thinking if there is a possibility to set another Archiving Criteria  which would archive mails(Older than 3 years, for example) in already existent archives to another Archive server.

This would make main archives smaller and also older mails which no one actually need anymore would go in an even older archive.

Is that possible?

Does this makes sense at all, or are there other solutions to handle big archives with very old emails?

Thank you

P.S. We also considered just to create another Archive setting and create a new set of archive for all users, but this solution is inconvenient as some might be new users, or some have archives which are not so old or big, and does not make sense to split them like this. Older than 3 years or so seems more reasonable.

Archive is comitted to a user

So using the policy will not allow you to act this way.

What is the issue ? A lack of space or the fact that the archive is not convenient to use because it contains too many documents ?

I would recommand to rename the current archive file, to place a shortcut to this db into the user's mailbox and to let the current archive policy to rebuild a new archive db.
