Odd email behavior

Creating and sending email to internet users works fine for the majority of external hosts but a few I am finding do not receive email from our users.  While monitoring the Domino console I can see the external mail server being contacted and the mail being delivered to the hosts server indicating a successful transfer but the user doesn't receive the email and it isn't being delivered into their spam folder. Now the twist... If a Notes user on our nnetwork receives email from this same internet user and replies to it, the Domino console shows the same messages but the email actually makes it to the internet users inbox.  Doesn't make sense to me.

Are users getting delivery failure notices?
In general, if the email reaches the destination SMTP server but is not then delivered, that indicates a problem on the remote end, assuming the email address is valid.

Odd email behavior

I wanted to make sure it wasn't on my end so I did a bunch of testing over the weekend but didn't have any change in results.  I got to work this morning, where I can physically touch our mail server instead of the remote access and deleted out the global domain document.  Immediately after doing so, all of the email I had been testing with was delivered but not without a slight complaint from the guy I was sending it to :)  Not really sure what in the domain document could have caused this to take place but it did.  A bit skeptical about applying another one.

There are also "Outbound mail restriction" settings on the Conversion tab of the GDD.

I wasn't able to find anything amiss in the settings document or in the email header of the sent email.  I'll probably keep projecting on this one until something makes itself clear...  Thanks for all the input...
