Item selected is not item displayed

Often when I am browsing my email, reading and deleting items, Notes very often misbehaves with very unfortunate results.  Very often, the item that is displayed as the selection in the list pane (where you select the email item you want to read or delete) is not actually the item that is selected!  This results in the preview pane showing the mail that is actually selected while the list pane highlights a completely different email (usually the one above or below the correct one).  Unfortunately this results in accidental deletion of unread emails (when you delete the one that appears to be selected in the list pane).

Several of my colleagues have also noticed this peculiar behavior.

This behavior also existed in 8.5.3, before I upgraded to 9.0.1.

Is the Lotus Notes team aware of this issue and is a fix forthcoming?

Hello Glen!

It is not clear to me which issue you are facing,
By the way, did you try to enable the option "Show check marks in margin for selected documents" in File -> Preferences -> Basic Notes client configuration -> Additional options ?

Maybe it is help you.

Best Regards!
Rodrigo

Here's an example

There have been a number of issues where the document (or folder or whatever) that the user THINKS is selected is not the document (or folder or whatever) that is actually selected. The problem has been around since the eclipse client was created and continues to exist today. There are a number of issues in the 8.5 forum.

I've opened PMRs for a few back when we were considering upgrading from 6.5.5 (very stable release, by the way).

Here's an example - SPR #RSSA8FPRSL describes a reproducible scenario in the default mail template - and was logged against 8.5.2. This issue is still not resolved in 9.0.1 FP2.

Yes this is very irritating.
There are a few times I thought I had one email selected, press delete and another email got deleted.

SPR RSSA8FPRSL
I'd recommend opening a PMR and request to be added to SPR RSSA8FPRSL.

Some more documentation of this bug.

Well, I don't know what a PMR is, but this bug happened again to me this morning, so I documented it more carefully this time for you.

Here are screenshots.  First one show the error (wrong message content displayed, even though header info displayed ,matches the list, the actual content is that of a completely different thread from a different sender that was sent days later (notice the Nov 26th date within the AoT newsletter, while the header claims this is an email sent Nov 20th, about a help desk ticket).  The second image shows the correct email content (which I got by moving the selection up and down, suing the arrow keys).

If I had deleted this item, thinking it was the newsletter, but it was instead the ticket as suggested by the header and the list selection, then I would have lost an important email due to this bug in Lotus.  I frequently encounter this bug.  I am sure this has caused real business problems for users.  I think it needs to be fixed.

Sorry if the second image is hard to view but it seems this web form only puts a horizontal scrollbar, not a vertical one.  Someone should fix that too. :-)

And here is what *should have been displayed:

Images?

Argh.  Even though this web form allowed me to add images, and the images were present and visible in that last reply when I clicked save, they do not appear to have actually been saved (or at least I can't see them on this page).  Frustrations with Lotus, and more frustrations with the method of providing feedback about Lotus.  Nice.

SPR RSSA8FPRSL is not resolved.

I just tested using exactly the same steps used to report the issue, the same steps were used by IBM support to reproduce the issue, and SPR RSSA8FPRSL was created:

I was able to reproduce the issue that you are seeing with my client.
(Ctrl +End with preview open and hitting the delete key removed the
wrong document) I have documented the issue step by step with our
development group. This was reproduced on my production machine running
a Notes 8.5.2 client with 8.5.2 template. This has been documented as
SPR- RSSA8FPRSL which will be evaluated for future releases of the Notes
client. Below is a link for SPR look-ups in future releases of Notes.

Still fails in 9.0.1FP3
