Registration or creation of directory entries

Been a while since I have done anything Domino admin wise other than re-certify users and that was a long while ago (circa 5 years), so guidance requested please.

First why am I doing this...

I have a Notes domain that was created in 1999. I have a mail user (me) with numerous email databases that have been manually archived through copying off either server or client and a collection of application databases. These are encrypted as per normal practice.

The current mail file has been upgraded to 8 but no higher.

The user has been using the mail file without a server for about 5 years. (I moved to not using non-licensed software so the Windows server went and I have been using Linux in various guises since). The original server files are not available as they were wiped a couple of years ago in a clear out of backup media.

The user ID ran out recently and I then discovered that the admin ID had too.

It has always been my intention to recreate a server but each time I had tried to get Domino to run on CENTOS my linux knowledge to integrate it into my SMB network let me down.

So, I with some spare time I tried again.

Where have I got to?

I have successfully used the original CERT ID to recertify the admin ID (and two other IDs I would like to use)

I have a 9.0.1 server running on CENTOS 7, (almost, but not quite reliably starting with Daniel Nashed's scripts)

I used the setup process to use the old admin ID and CERT id so that the server has the same name as the original server I had and the domain has the same name. This resulted in a new mailbox and a directory entry created for administrator linked to the original admin ID.

The directory currently has no other users.

What do I want to do?

I would like to create new mailboxes for the two IDs I have, to avoid any upgrade issues (they are large and one had a design update problem a couple of versions back) and have entries added to the directory
BUT I don't want to have to go back and change all the ACLs on the previous mail files and databases and deal with any issues arising from encryption, so I think that this means that I have to use the old ID files.

So, what is the best and or simplest way to achieve this with current domino technology?

Thanks.

copy public key from ID file

OK, so I think that this is probably the quickest way...

Create the directory entry manually and amend the relevant name and mail fields etc.

Copy the public key from the ID file to the directory entry as per: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSKTMJ_9.0.1/admin/conf_addinganotespublickeytothedominodirectory_t.dita?lang=en

The copy mechanisms was just buried in the newer versions of admin.

Any gotchas with this approach at V9?

Cheers,
