Remote pathnames must be relative to the Data directory

I just upgrade Domino on AIX from 8.5 (32 bit) to Domino 9.0.1 (64 bit).
The upgrade went fine, howerver when I try to open a database
that is on a remote file system ( /archive01 ) I get the message:

Remote pathnames must be relative to the Data directory

In the Domino data directory I have a directory called Users
In Users there are symbolic links to /archive01
For example x -> /archive01/x
In the x directory on the file system /archive01 are databases
that I cannot open.

This worked fine before I upgraded. Can someone please tell me how
I can fix this.  Thank you.
