IBM ODBC for Notes/Doimino 9

Yesterday I found that IBM released a new version of NotesSQL now titled IBM ODBC for Notes/Domino 9.  They offer a 32 bit and 64 bit version.  I was happy to see the 64 bit version, but very disappointed to find out that it will not work with the notes client.  I opened a PMR and was told the 64 bit would not work with the notes client because the notes client for windows only comes in 32 bit and it wont interact with the 64 bit odbc driver.  Their suggestion was to install domino server in 64 bit and basically use the domino server install as the client.

I really don't want to do this since it's on a SQL server that is already going to be loaded up resource wise.  I don't want to add the additional load and impact of having a domino server installed.  They also couldn't give me a 100% answer on how this would impact my licenses.  Would we need to buy more domino server licenses just to run ODBC in 64 bit?  They didn't seem to know.

Currently we have the 32bit version installed, ODBC connections setup in 32bit mode, trouble is SQL reporting services 64 bit can not and will not use a 32 bit DSN.  The only other option is to use Lotus Script to push the data from notes to a SQL database and report off of that.  We don't want to do that either, we don't want to duplicated the data and have it stored outside of the current Notes database.

I am baffled as to why IBM has not provided us with a 64 bit client for windows, this is very disappointing.  This is certainly an epic fail on IBM's part.

Who thinks there is a need a 64 bit Notes client?  Please respond with your thoughts on that. I'd love to build a case for IBM to consider a 64 bit client for windows.

64-obit ODBC needed for ms office

I agree a 64-bit windows client is needed.

one reason is that if you have ms office installed as 64-bit then you need a 64-bit ODBC driver and a 64-bit notes client for any integration.

btw, licensing is based on client licences now, so you can install as many servers as you like.

Change in Licensing?

Jim, when did that change?  Do you have a link to the new license structure?  I'm pretty sure you still have to license servers by PVU and track processor cores if you are running them in VMWare.
