SQL Driver and x64 client

Greetings,

We are soon upgrading our servers from 8.5.3 to Domino 9.0 FP7. I have two questions that could really do with answering...! In order for "Lotus Notes SQL Driver 8.5.3" to work on Windows Server 2012R2, we HAD to install a Domino server 8.5.3. Can't remember the exact reason for this, I think because the OS is 64 bit and there is no 64 bit client for Lotus Notes 8.5.3. But there is a x64 edition of Domino.

1) From my understanding the "Lotus Notes SQL Driver" has been rebranded to "IBM ODBC Driver". Correct?

2) Does it still require it's own bloody Domino Server to work on a 64 bit OS? Or will the new Lotus Notes 9 Client be sufficient? Or the ultimate; can it now work with no client at all?!

Thanks
