Hi Bradley, thank you for your response.  This is the JVM my Notes 9.0.1.0 client is using:

C:\IBM\Notes\jvm\bin>java -version
java version "1.6.0"

I had previously Oracle Java 8 installed on my Windows system.  I removed it and installing still failed.

Oracle 8 was an external JVM which Notes or the installer would never use anyway. So removing it did not change your situation.

You can try to remove c:\ibm\notes\jvm and reinstall fixpack 6. or install the jvm update (available from fix central: just look files for ibm Notes, then look for JVMPatch_SR16FP20_RSSNA6UU79_W32_901.5_ClientServer ) to 1.6.0 sr16 fp20 then instal fixpack 6
