Type ahead Basic vs Standard

After an upgrade problem (PMR open) a user could only run Notes 9 in Basic mode. She complained that type-ahead in mail addressing wasn't working as before. I restarted my own mail client in Basic, checked that Location settings matched, and sure enough it's true. Short names don't expand. Partial names resolve differently.

Has it always been that way or is this new with 9? It's tough to address email in Basic mode now.

Would you mind providing addl information
A quick test did not show this problem in the lab, Wondering if you can provide more details on exactly what names are not expanding

For example
I type an external contact's last name. In Basic the first match is filled in automatically, in Standard I get a dropdown showing several matches but no autocomplete. Same Location document being used in both cases.

The typeahead drop down experience is only available in standard client
Basic client does not support the drop down or recent contacts
