You are not authorised to perform this operation

In a simple database without any reader or author fields and no design element access control implemented, a database user listed as editor in the ACL can edit a document, but once trying to save a Notes Client message appears saying You are not authorised to perform this operation.

To make this completely wired, this happens only to some users, not all and only for some documents not all.

I just can't figure out what it is causing this.

Any help is appreciated.

P.S.

I removed all formula and script to make sure nothing interferes.

I also wrote a little script to scan the documents for any reader or author fields...nothing

On a local copy the problem disappears (consistent ACL on)

ACL Access

What level of access have you given the users?

In order to edit any document in the database a user is required to have "Editor" access or above.  "Author Access" will allow the user to edit documents he creates, and "reader" access will only allow the user to see documents, and not edit them.

Document versioning?
Just guessing: Could it be that versioning is enabled in the relevant form, while some users are not allowed to create new documents in the database?

ACL Access & Versioning

Users are given Editor access. So they can create documents. The forms do not have any access control set. There is no script or formula that would cause any such effect.

Also no document versioning.

As I said before, this happens only for some documents, not for all of them. This also can't be a matter of a design change where older documents had some sort of security set, which no longer applies for newer once. The database is archived frequently, documents are never older than a few month.

I can't make any sense of it. I'm working with Lotus Notes since 1995 and never experienced such a problem. Could it be a database corruption?

Closing in...

Created a local replica and the same documents that can't be modified on the server can be modified on the local replica. Again, Enforce consistent ACL is on. Will now overwrite server replica. Let's see what is happening

Corruption is NOT the issue

Re-created the replicas on the server. Still the same effect: locally users can edit and save document, on the server they are not authorised. Again, consistent ACL is enabled, no user roles involved. Aaaargh!

By the looks of things I need to create local replicas to enable users working on this database.

What happens if you elevate a user's rights?

Just for giggles, elevate the rights of one of the users and see if the problem goes away.

Does this happen for all users or just some subset?

Has anything changed that is concurrent with the problem?

Have you tried turning on the debugger just in case there is some LS running?
