Show more info in the console

Hi! I have a question about the console. Back some years when we were using Domino 5 or 6 I remember I could start the domino console and watch all kinds of events in real time. Like mail routed, arraving and sent mail, replication and when users connected. It was info all the time. A year ago I tried to get this working again by changing notes.ini and creating events but I just see some very basic things now and then on the console. Im I missing something here. Or is this because I used to run Domino as a program instead of a service before? Anyway I would like to get this back. I spotted many errors by just watching the console for some minutes.

Hi Fredriksts,

There are a lot of debug parameters to put on NOTES.INI to provide you additional information.

Try to use this parameter on NOTES.INI:

ConsoleLogLevel=5

Most likely because you are running as a service
With Windows 2008 and greater they prohibit service from writing to console window... You can either run Domino as an application to get back to seeing your console messages or there are now two ICON's on Desktop... If you are running as a Service you can launch the IBM Domino Console Icon and it should launch Java Console and connect to the service and show you the logging messages you are looking for...

Thanks for your input. I had ConsoleLoglevel=4 before but changed it to 5. Dont think it would make a huge diffrence. Restarted the server but still nothing.  I have run the java console both from the server itself and also from my client. I get some info when the server starts. Otherwise nothing happens. Even though I know the server is really busy and does things all the time.

When I look in the log.nsf and for example mail routing events there are detailed information here about diffrent activities.

Solution

Ok, so first of all stop your "Events Monitor" task.

You can do this from the server tab, then go to the point "Server tasks" on the left side. Right mouse click - stop task, and then look in your console.

Chances are everything is now there, if this is the case, then your DDM/Events config is either corrupt or just wrong.

The fix is easy, just go to the "Configuration" tab in your admin client.

On the left there is a point for "Monitoring configuration", open it.  There is an under point "Log Filters", just delete the contents of the view. There are other methods to do this too, but this is the most simple.

Now start your Events task using the server tab, tools on the side then "Start", "Event Monitor".

Sincerely

Thank you VERY much. Works perfect. I actually removed the Log filters this morning without ant luck but forgot to restart the event task.
