Adding Domino 9 server to existing 8.5.2 network

Because it's been so long since I've updated to a "major release", I just need some peace of mind here.

I have a network of many Domino 8.5.2 servers. I want to install the Traveler 9 server, but need to install it on a Domino 9 server.

My question is: Will installing a domino 9 server affect my main db's (names.nsf, admin4.nsf) in any way in my existing network? Or is that only relevant when I update my administration server?
Been a bad week, and I don't want installing a domino 9 server to make it worse.

Same setup here

Just did what you are asking.

It of course updated the design on the directory, adminp, ect.  However the 8.5 servers continued to run fine with it in place.  Technically the instructions say to upgrade the managing server of the directory first.  We did as you are looking to do.  Upgraded our Traveler server to 9, the of course followed that up with a Traveler 9 upgrade.

We did bring over the updated templates for the directory, ect from the upgraded server to the admin server so design refresh would not put it back to a 8.5 template version.

Be warned, traveler icons turn blue when they update their devices.  Some users have a hard time handling that.
