Mailto: .... launching IE ?

I have one user (that I know of) who has an issue when they receive an email within the notes client that contains a Mailto: link.

When they click on that link, some type of loop kicks off where maybe 30+ windows of internet explorer launch.

When I test this out with others here, the same email causes a new mail message to be created with in the notes client as expected.

Also, on the problem machine, if i delete most of the notes.ini file and run through the setup process again, the problem disappears for a time. Last time things ran normally for 3-4 days, then it seems like eventually something gets added to the notes.ini that causes the issue to resurface ?

Thanks,

Bill

It is a registry key that needs to be corrected to prevent this issue from occurring!

I myself had this issue on my Lotus Notes 9.0.1 client and the following is required to resolve this issue

Re-create the missing string value
  • Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
  • Navigate to the following branch:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\mailto

  • From the Edit menu, select New, and then click String Value.
  • Type URL Protocol as the name of the new String Value
  • Exit the Registry Editor
