I'm encountering a new situation with DAOS enabled mail files after they've been ftp'd to non daos enabled server.

What is happening –

  1. I get a historical restore of a mail file to the production system to a restore directory and with a name of filename.date.bak

2.     I ftp that files from the production system, an iseries, to a wintel server that does not have daos running.

a.     I don't disable daos on the file before I do this.  I can't replication because I encountering the Object Store error for any of the attachments that are no longer on the system after a purge.  I don't do the process to get the attachments restored because it's a horendously long and painful process.

3.     I do some processing to the file, remove encryption and return receipts and change the ACL that takes out things and puts just about everything else to Reader access.

4.     I notify an investigator that the file is ready for their review and they perform some keyword searches and move their findings to an empty folder and then ask me to make a new file with only the documents in the folder.

5.     Here's where things are acting differently that they have the past 3 to 4 years.

6.     When I make an OS copy of the file to directory outside of Notes and do what needs to be done to delete all the documents except what is in the folder, the next time I copy the database the documents with DAOS links just up and disappear.  They documents aren't supposed to disappear.  They're supposed to be there and be annoying and continue to give me the Object Store error if document or documents try to be copied or replicated in any way.

Any ideas was new feature as seemingly popped up that is "helping"?

Have you tried making a replica of the mail file to the non-DAOS'd server?

If I make a replica of a mail file to a non-DAOS enabled server, the replica is "de-DAOS'd", and the attachments that were saved as NLO files are added back to the replica, and I am not dealing with DAOS on any level.  An OS-level copy to a different server would run into several problems such as the DAOS'd attachments having been encrypted under a different server's ID.

I don't really understand what you mean by this step...
When I make an OS copy of the file to directory outside of Notes and do what needs to be done to delete all the documents except what is in the folder, the next time I copy the database the documents with DAOS links just up and disappear.
