Notes 9 installation in backround

  • Category: Install
  • Platform: Windows
  • Release: 9.0.1

we are going to rollout Notes 9.0.1 FP4 Standard client for approx. 1200 users. For packaging we use the 3rd party software Frantrange DSM (Heat Software).

But we are still looking for a method to install Notes silent in the backround with the user logged of.

The main reason for this approach is:
- we are installing 4 packages (Notes 9 client English, 2 MUI packages for various languages and fix pack 4)
- after installation of the English Notes client the Notes icon appears on the desktop
- when the user tries to start Notes before the entire installation has completed (during the installation of the MUI packages or the fix pack) the installation process crashes

Does have further information how we can handle this?

Thanks

Christian

Re Notes install in backround
Hello
This should help with you query :

Performing a Notes silent install or upgrade on Windows
MSI command line arguments are avail= able, and may be required, for running a Notes=AE command line install to add or remove Notes client features during initial install, release upgrade, or within the same Notes release.
Before you begin

You must be logged in as an administ= rative user or user with elevated privileges to install or upgrade Notes.

About this task

Run the Notes setup.exe from the dir= ectory in which it resides locally.

Previous Notes releases supported the use of SELECTINSTALLFEATURES on the MSI command line to add and optionally remove install manifest (install.xml in Notes install kit) features. Notes 8.5.2 introduced support for the ADDFEATURES and REMOVEFEATURES command line arguments. Although the SELECTINSTALLFEATURES command line argument remains available for installing Notes features, it is no longer available for removing installed Notes features. See Tech Note 1424066 for details.

Note: ADDFEATURES and REMOVEFEATURES properties are available only as command line arguments when using a Notes silent install. These properties can be set directly on the command line or used within an MSI Transform file during silent installation mode only. To control the feature selections in the feature panel in the UI mode, use the Notes install manifest (install.xml) file settings or consider using the UpdateSiteMgr tool supplied with the Notes install kit.

Note: For enabling the Notes Preload= er option use an MSI transform file; see Tech Note 1424193 for details.

The Notes features that can be inclu= ded on the MSI silent install command line are as follows:
•DESIGNER -- Notes single user= install only (Allclient kit)
•ADMINISTRATOR -- Notes single= user install only (Allclient kit)
•Activities -- Connections
•SametimeUI -- Embedded IBM=AE= Sametime=AE
•Feedreader -- Feeds sidebar p= anel
•ClientSingleLogon
•CAE -- Composite Applications= Editor
•OpenSocial -- OpenSocial comp= onent
•ALL -- All available MSI opti= ons and all features available for install as specified in the Notes install kit's install manifest (install.xml)

Crash during the install.
The user will not be able to launch Notes while the MUI is being installed . You will need to install the Notes package in unattend mode using a System account  or local Admin account.
