Dom 9 upgrade: Extended Dir design?

When upgrading to Domino 9, is the design of the extended directory automatically updated?  or is this a manual step?

(I could not find this in the docs...)

Thank you.

Pretty sure it's a manual step
I've never done it any other way in our Development Domain.

I like to bring the Directory Server down, leaving a cluster mate up

Copy the extended directory to where my Admin Client can access it...  Replace it with the latest pubnames.ntf
Copy it back to the server

Run updall against the extended directory after you replace the design so all the critical views that were modified get rebuilt while the server is down....

Start Domino

Go to clustemate and quit Domino

Replicate with First Directory Server that has the latest design
Run updall against the Extended director
Start Domino

Repeat for as many directory servers as you have

Least amount of pain to your end users....

RE: Dom 9 upgrade: Extended Dir design?

Thank you John.

Do you know if this action will have any impact on mobile users who have a local replica of the Extended Directory?

For example, after the design is upgraded, would they have a large amount of replication traffic because of the change?

Thank you for your assistance.

Linda
