Calendar alerts and reminders not working on Linux

  • Category: Notes Client

I am not able to get my calendar notifications working on my Notes 9.0.1.
No matter if I set an alert, a reminder or a meeting, the notification just doesn't come up.

I tried to deselect the checkbox "Close alters automatically after the following number of seconds" in Preferences->Notifications->Modify Notification Display
and click on "Apply to all Events" but it didn't work.

I have a 24-hour time format set on my Fedora 20 but Notes use a 12-hour format with AM/PM suffix in the email and calendar. I tried to set "Show 24-hour scheduler" in
Preferences -> Calendar and To Do -> Access and Delegaton -> Scheduling -> Scheduler Display
but the calendar still show a 12-hour format.

How can I solve this problems ?

Troubleshooting alarms/notificaitons
Federico,

There are a couple of reasons why alarms may not be working.  However, you may want to verify if the issue is specific to this machine or not.
Does the problem exist on other machines?
Is your location document pointing to the correct id file and server?
Is this a new install of Notes, and have the alarms ever worked?

Please follow the TN below for some additional troubleshooting steps:

Re: Troubleshooting alarms/notificaitons

I tried to follow the instructions you posted but I couldn't find anything useful.
I tried to change the date and time format and now the KDE clock and date are the same showed by notes in the emails.
Unfortunately this didn't help.

The alarm are enabled in the Calendar & ToDo -> Alarms tab

The menu Actions > Tools > Preferences doesn't exist any more.

The flag $EnableAlarms=1 is correctly set in the notes.ini file

I don't understand how to check the point 1. What are the Location document and the Name & Address Book (NAB) ?

Locatoin Document
The NAB is the database that contains all of your local contacts.  By default, it is names.nsf.  The location documents are stored in the NAB.  If the information (server name, mail file name, domain, etc..) listed in the location document is incorrect, you're alarms will not work.  Here is a link to a video that shows how to access your location document(s).

Problem Solved

Thank you very much Todd for the answer.

The mail file location was set to on Server but the path was local so I switched from on Server to Local and a popup with missing alarms appeared.

Problem solved!

Thanks Todd. I had been struggling with this problem of missing alerts when on local for a long time. Changing this setting fixed it!
