If yes, I would recommend to set up a separate Domino 8.5.3 server for Sametime.

I was trying to upgrade our existing Domino 8.5.3FP3 installation to Domino 9. The server was also running Sametime 8.5.2IFR1 before. Now that i reverted back to 8.5.3FP3 I'm still unable to reinstall Sametime 8.5.2 Entry. It complains that the domino version is not supported. Seems like there are still traces of the domino 9 installation that disturbe the reinstallation of Sametime. This is really annoying, since sametime 8.5.2 is listed as the Sametime Entry version for Domino 9 on the Passport Advantage Website.... What might be causing the reinstall to fail? Does it look for the version of certain templates?!?

I would say that it is looking for either the server version in the notes.ini or the registry HLCM>SOFTWARE>Lotus.

The server i'm talking about is running linux, so theres no registry ;-) I ended up reinstalling Domino 8.5.3 with FP3 and HF101, and since reinstalling Sametime 8.5.2 didn't work because of the aforementioned problem, i tried to run the installation for the 8.5.2 IFR1 package directly. That installer didn't complain and exited successfully. Now the server was also able to start the Sametime-Services again. So it seems that Domino 9 isn't compatible with Sametime 8.5.2, although the available downloads and descriptions on Passport Advantage made me believe that....

Correct. The Sametime system requirements don't list Domino 9 yet:

And given the experience that Sametime is very specific regarding the Domino release it is installed on I'd suggest to follow these requirements exactly. It might be the best to install a dedicated Domino server for Sametime.
