Hi all.

I've recently upgraded my Domino servers to 9.0.1 (for SHA-2 certificates support), but I still want to keep on using the iNotes 8.5 UI, so as to have a similar user experience in both Notes and iNotes.

Right after the first server was upgraded to 9.0.1, iNotes users started being offered the iNotes 9.0.1 UI, even though their mailbox still used a mail85.ntf based template.
This is a departure from the previous behavior observed on Domino 8.5, where iNotes UI was tied to the mail template : mail85.ntf users were offered the iNotes 8.5 UI, mail7.ntf users were offered the iNotes 7 UI, and so on.

So far I've managed to "downgrade" the iNotes UI by removing the Forms9.nsf database, and replacing it with Forms85.ntf, but I fear that this will not be very maintainable solution in the long term.
Also, I'm unable to start evaluating Notes 9.0.1 and iNotes 9.0.1 together on those servers, since iNotes 9.0.1 is no longer available there.

Is there a better way to achieve this, to keep on using the iNotes 8.5 UI for users still using the mail85.ntf template, and start moving select users to Notes 9 / iNotes 9 / mail9.ntf ?

The way I understand it

Inotes looks at the design of your mail file and tries to use the corresponding formsX.nsf   Since you did not have the forms85.nsf on the server it used the forms9.nsf.   Put back the forms9.nsf  along with forms85.nsf and you should be fine.   I would restart the server after you put the forms9.nsf back on the server.

You can have both

In my environment, I have both Forms and designs working together without problem. (I have Domino 9.0.1FP3 running on the server)

In fact, there are still a few users that have inotes6 design

You're right Barry

You're right Barry.
I tried it again, and this time the correct forms database was picked up appropriately.

When I first installed Domino 9.0.1, I had uninstalled Domino 8.5 beforehand, and therefore the Forms85.nsf file was gone.
Then I restored it, restarted the http task, used "tell inotes flushforms", and I THINK I even restarted Domino, to no avail.

But I see now both forms databases are working well together.

Also, thanks Brandon for pointing to inotes_wa_formsfiles, this may come in handy.
