I've encountered this problem at a customer when trying to format some html formatted emails from a shared mailbox with custom design
When I copy one of those messages into my own mailfile I can reproduce the problem.

Followed several suggestions found online sofar, like 'Disable embedded browser for MIME mail', disabling the user's html-file signature, try standard mail templates, use 'Copy into new' function all without result.

Anyone else ran into this issue? or ideas on how to fix this?

Internet style forward works, but isn't really an acceptable solution for the customer.

re: cannot save bitmap to disk error

Hi,

One of our tech guys documented a "solution" but I have not tested so cannot confirm (he now works elsewhere).  Perhaps some of the below might help.  Here was his solution (note that this was dated August 2010 so users would have most likely been on the Notes 7.0 client at that time)

Problem: You recieve a reply to a signed e-mail, or an e-mail from someone outside the company who's attached a signature with a picture.  If you attempt to reply to this message it fails to send, and you get the error message Cannot save bitmap to disk.
When you look at the signature there's an invisible placeholder for the picture, and an attachment at the bottom of the message.  You find the placeholder by highlighting the suspected area and it shows up as a black box.  Deleting this placeholder allows you to send the message but will display other error messages including something like "...you've already sent this message...", and no sent message appears in your sent items box.  (The work around for this is to delete the placeholder, and save the message as a draft.  Once you've saved it you can re-open it and send it safely.)

Work-around: In Lotus Notes under File, User preferences, there is a setting Show in-line MIME images as attachments.  Remove the checkmark.

Effects!  We originally started checking this feature because some documents would arrive embedded in an e-mail and there was no way to separate the document from the e-mail.  When you check this box (Show in-line MIME images as attachments) and restart notes your attachments would now show at the bottom of the message and you could open or save the attachment as required.  This appears to be rare though, so you have to live with one problem or the other, and switch back and forth as required.
