On the Mac Notes 9 client I see the progress bar running all the time.  When I click the yellow dot to see what it is, it's usually a task stating Job to get content for "Users Name" from NotesContacts.  Sometimes it will say Jog to get Business Card content.  Other times there will be about 25 tasks with no description, just running.  What could be causing this to happen.  I've had some other mac users report it as well.
