Archiving Database on Server

Hi,

I'm trying to get a database/application to archive its older docs on the server (ie server based archiving). I've setup all the archive settings in the application, but the server is not doing the archiving. All the help I've tried to search for seems to be about mail archiving on the server and policies for a user, but this is not a mail database of a user, its an application. How do I get the server to run the archive on this application?

Regards

Damien

Probably...

Hi Damien, I am not an expert to answer your question but I don't think the archiving policies will work for applications. As a workaround, probably you can write an agent to shift data from application on ServerA to another application on ServerB and then delete that data from ServerA.

Add program document to do the archving of that database on that server
Server Based archiving is accomplished with the compact task and either the -a or -A parameter....

So you would setup a program document to do the archiving in your case on a single server and on the single database

Here is a sample program document where I archive log.nsf on all my 9.0x Servers I have listed in a group I created "9.0 Server Group"on a nightly basis to keep my log.nsf data at 7 days but access to the archived data for an extended period of time....

Program name: compact Enabled/disabled: Enabled
Command line: -A log.nsf Run at times: 12:01 AM each day
Server to run on: 9.0 Server Group Repeat interval of: 0 minutes
Comments: Archive documents Days of week: Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat

compacting

Thanks,

For now I'll just manually do a server side compact with the -A (archive) option, that worked first time for me, so I start with that for now. I'll look into program documents later when I learn more about it.

Regards
