Installation of domino parition server

Hi,

I have installed domino server  without  selecting/installing any partitions on windows platforms. I have used this first server as registration server

and registered another server name from Domino Administration.

However I do not know how to install the partition server after the installation of the main server.  If I try the GUI mode , I guess it will overwrite the Domino folder.

Can some one please guide me  or tell me the correct procedure? (I am using Domino 9.0.1)

Regards,

George

Partition server config occurs during setup
Partition server configuration occurs during setup. You can back up your current server's data directory, uninstall the earlier standlone Domino server, and then run the Domino server setup.exe to configure the number of desired partitions at startup. After, restore the backed up databases into one of the new partitioned server's data directory.

For related information:

Domino http server issues

Thanks for the reply.

I faced some other issues, so I have reinstalled domino with partitions on another VM.

I have three data folders now.

Data (standalone server - registration server)

Data200 (setup as an additional server)

Data201 (setup as an additional server)

The first one starts fine (as a service & further using console)

When I try to start the second & third, it starts as a service & suddenly it stops

Console.log shows something as  follows

//..............

[14B4:0002-1524] 06/01/2015 02:14:05 PM  HTTP Server: Started
[07C8:0002-159C] 06/01/2015 02:18:50 PM  Admin Process: Searching Administration Requests database
[1020:0036-0638] 06/01/2015 02:27:23 PM  Opened session for GA-GTQA_Data201.partner-dev.companyname.com/companyname (Release 9.0.1)
[1020:0036-06FC] 06/01/2015 02:27:43 PM  Closed session for GA-GTQA_Data201.partner-dev.companyname.com/companyname Databases accessed:     7   Documents read:   772   Documents written:     1   Transactions:  1969

Why does it stops suddenly?

Another problem I face is that none of the web servers shows the root page. I have invoked 'netstat -a' and I do not see that  it listens on port 80. Why is this behavior?

(I am using unique ip, one of the machine & two ip's created using Microsoft loopback adapter)

Another concern is that when I start the console (of any of the three servers) the server name is always that of the first one

GA-GTQA.partner-dev.companyname.com/companyname

Is this a correct behavior? Please give guidelines.

Regards,

George

What is your goal?
Do you want the three servers accessible from beyond that system? If so, you'll need to either use port-mapping with the single IP address or have three IPs on your network and assign one to each system. Domino can run on a loopback address, but that's not going to be useful unless you are connecting from the same system. When you have a shared IP and use port-mapping, you can connect to all of them, but you'll have to use non-standard ports since you can't reuse the same IP:port endpoint for multiple servers' services. So you'd have 1352 for your primary, 13520 for the secondary, and 13521 for the third, as examples. The same would apply to HTTP (e.g. 80, 8080, 8081).

Here are a few links you'll want to review:

Clarification

Its not mandatory that I access the three servers from outside the system.

We have a DSAPI filter which we use for authentication based on the request  The same has to run on all  partitions and I am basically checking whether our installer is capable of doing that & I am more focused on using Domino as an HTTP server.  We have supported earlier versions of Domino.. but the thing is that I am new to Domino & those who have worked earlier on Domino are not available.

I have read that using port mapping requires advanced skill. Hence I was trying on using unique  ip address.

Currently I have this in host file

10.4.17.95 GA-GTQA.partner-dev.companyname.com (this is a virtual machine running on VMware Vsphere)

162.198.1.200 GA-GTQA_Data200.partner-dev.companyname.com  (Microsoft loopback adapter)

162.198.1.201 GA-GTQA_Data201.partner-dev.companyname.com  (Microsoft loopback adapter)

Do I have to do anything for using single NIC for the servers 162.198.1.200 , 162.198.1.201. I saw this link

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSKTMJ_9.0.1/admin/conf_assigningseparateipaddressestopartitionsonasystem_t.dita but not clear on how to do that..

Why my setup is not working? I am using Windows Server 2008

George

A couple of things
I don't think you have your networking piece nailed down yet. The loopback address is 127.0.0.1, but it would be rare to want to run a server on that address. I actually do that, but it's a specific scenario where the only client that will ever connect is guaranteed to be on the same system, and the system's IP address changes frequently. You are instead trying to run it on a private network, but you've flipped the first two octets, which should be 192.168.

Since you want to run Domino on three unique IP addresses, you do not need to do anything special from the networking perspective (i.e. no port-mapping or binding of services to nonstandard ports). You'll want to revisit your 168.192 IP addresses and their relationship to the loopback adapter. That doesn't make sense to me. You want your external network adapter with the additional addresses, not loopback.
