Subject: Make a custom calendar view look and act more like the default calendar?

I have a custom view that is based on the "Calendar" view. The only difference between the two is the view selection formula. The custom view's selection formula is this:

Categories = "MyCustomCategory"

How can I make the custom view look more like a calendar in the Lotus Notes client? For example, here is a screenshot of what the custom view looks like:

And below is what it should look like. The items encircled in blue are the most important. Note: in v6.5.4 the custom calendar view looked and functioned just like the default calendar view, this is what I'm trying to achieve when our users migrate from v6 to v8.

Any ideas?
