Subject: Notes client SMTP sending should be backgrounded.
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Notes 8 Client
Technical Area: Functionality
Platform: Windows XP client
Release: Beta 2
Reproducible: Always

I do use the Notes client to send mail directly to the internet via SMTP, and get some from the same ISP via POP3.
Not so common on my customers, but I and some other admins I know, like to do it on their workstations, specially at home-offices.

The problem is old.

When replicating/sending the SMTP e-mails to the ISP SMTP server, Notes UI is dead until all messages are transferred to the ISP SMTP server.
POP3 retrieval works in bakground not disturbing the UI, allowing the user to continue working on Notes.
Replicating Notes databases with a Domino server also works in background as expected.

Note: I saw something in R6/7 forum a while ago that made me think that just I see this behavior and that SMTP sending is in background.

No-go here... I have to wait always.

Would like to have this changed/fixed in Notes 8.

Alexandre.
