Workaround found

The reason for the failure of the arithmetic is still a mystery but I have been able to work around it by converting the Doubles to a Strings then back to a Doubles inline as follows.

If cDbl(cStr(date1)) > cDbl(cStr(date2)) Then
...
End If

Tres strange.
