NOTES.INI section of Server Configuration document . . .

Back in the day you only had NOTES.INI for some settings (especially debug parameters) and you had to edit the NOTES.INI for each server.

As Server Configuration documents enable you to apply the same settings to many servers at once, you can use the NOTES.INI tab on a Configuration document to apply consistent NOTES.INI settings to many servers e.g. set "Create_R85_Databases=1".

Putting settings into the NOTES.INI tab on a Configuration document, instead of editing NOTES.INI directly results in the same thing - a line gets written to NOTES.INI. But it is generally easier to access your Domino Directory than NOTES.INI on a server.

FYI: There is a useful feature in the DDM database that enables you to open the NOTES.INI from a server and it lists the contents in alphabetical order: Open up a DDM event, then click on the "Common Actions" button in the Action Bar and you have "View Notes.INI".

Hth.
