Subject: Notes Standard Client soft-deletes mails under certain circumstances
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Notes Client
Technical Area: User Interface
Platform: Windows
Release: 8.5.3
Reproducible: Always

Hello to all,

this is an information to all who use the Notes Standard Client. I had that suspicion for a long time and had tried to find others in this forum to confirm, but nobody could reproduce the issue, like I wasn't able to reproduce it.

Now, I had been able to reproduce the issue and have reported it to IBM. Here is their confirmation:

You are having the following issue =>
Ctrl-Alt-Del deletes Mails.

Thank you for the updates. We have tested with your Test mail template
1) This had 3 mails in the inbox and we clicked on the second mail to
highlight this with a thick frame
2) Then clicking on the preview pane, the second mail that is
highlighted, this frame went thin.
3) Pressing down Ctrl+Alt and hitting the Del key shortly, the screen
changes to lock the screen.
4) Then we pressed the Esc key in order to not lock the screen (The
screen changes back to Notes)
5) and indeed there was 2 mails in the inbox
6) Looking in the trash folder - this contained the deleted mail
7) We restored this to go back to the inbox
8) The Inbox was showing 3 mails again.
9) Tried the other mails and had the same results.

We un-selected "Allow soft deletions" and tried the same steps, no
mails were deleted to the trash folder.
We did this a few times and no mails were deleted to the trash folder.
This is in File > Application > Properties > last tab

screen shot:

We noticed that if you do not have 'Allowed soft deletions' enabled,
you will not have an issue.
With soft deletions enabled and you do not click on the preview pane,
you will not have an issue.
If you like we could create a SPR for you for this issue and this would
go to development.

To sum up:
If soft deletions are turned on, you select a mail in any folder, click into the preview pane and press Ctrl+Alt+Del, the selected mail will be soft-deleted and show up in the trash, where it will be hard-deleted after the soft-deletion time.

I am not sure if soft-deletions turned on is the only important pre-requisite. This happens on the standard mail template, but we are using the German template StdR85Mail/de.

I'll post the SPR number here as soon as I have it.
