can a existing adminID be used for IDVault

We discussed theoretically the use of ID Vault and decided to use special ID derived from our O-cert. As the first ID Vault was set up, we learned the this IDVault setup creates a new ID incl. cert /IDVault (or so). On what reason (security?) is that or can an own cert also be used with ID Vault?
