The question is so simple, but I could not find the answer anywhere on the web !?

Background: I have several Domino messaging servers. I have an external Smart Host where to forward emails (those with recipients not found in local domain).

Question : do I have to put the smarthost setting on every servers, or could I choose one Domino server as a hub for all the others ?

Another well-known setting, the host where to relay all outgoing emails, works well with a star topology. All servers are smart enough to understand which one of them can relay outbound emails. One would think that it would be the same for smarthost. But no, I always have the error "user not listed in domino directory".

Tests done on R5,R8,R85.

I don't have much hope left, but if that could be clearly answered once and for all ? Thanks.
