Updating the mail template

I have been poking around the client interface and I cannot find how to change the view from being refreshed. Lotus Notes Help is no help.

Getting rid of this one bit of unused space is becoming more complicated!

Can you please advise where I can change these settings:
* View properties
* Modify the mail template and change the option there to disable awareness
