The Recent Contacts is only available in the Standard version...

Sorry to hear that you needed to downgrade to the basic version. I'm curious about your hardware configuration which sounds like it might be right on the edge (enough hardware to think you could run standard -- but didn't work out well in practice).

Unfortunately, though, there is a whole host of features only available in the Standard version of Notes 8.x. Recent Contacts (the typeahead you are describing) is one of them. We have no plans to incorporate that functionality into the Basic version of Notes -- it relies heavily on our Eclipse/Expeditor platform.
