"Cannot Get Mail - The Connection to the server failed"

I too was getting that error message... on an older iPod Touch. I originally configured the iPod using the Apple profile. I then deleted the profile and configured the device manually (settings, mail contact and calendar, add account, Exchange, etc). The error message no longer appears and everything works fine.
