Need some clarification

By "Server contacts" are you referring to the Server Directories? If so, you can search the configured server directories by clicking on the To field label when composing a message. This will take you to a screen where can either browser your contacts or type in a portion of a name and do a search against the server directories. When you find a name you want to send this email to, you can then add it to a particular addressing field (to, cc or bcc).

The "type-ahead" which happens as you start typing in the addressee fields is from the recently collaborated list that is managed by Lotus iNotes.
