The client to mail file is easy. Check the client, in the preferences on the client you must enable the option to sync contacts. Since the menus vary from standard to basic it's easiest to go into their contacts on the client, click on the "More" botton and then choose preferences. Be sure the option to sync is checked. Next go to your replicator page and check to be sure replication for contacts is selected and enabled. Kick off a replication (And set it up on a schedule if it's not already)
To verify that this worked..well, the obvious way of looking at changes sent/received on the replicator page is one thing, but you can open the mail file (on the server) and click on Actions - Lotus iNotes - Open Mail file Copy of Contacts .... this allows you to see what is in the mail file.
If you don't see it in the mail file you won't get it on the blackberry.
Second step - Mail file to the BB. This involves a few different working parts. If you've verified notes client contacts are in the mail file then you know that what you want on the BB is there. Now you need to check a few things... and I'm going to assume access isn't an issue for the BES and that mail is working.
Go into the BB itself and check contacts. In the OPTIONS, do you see that synchronization is enabled. IF it's off on the device you'll have isssues. If that checks out, log into your BES administration and look the user up. Now this may vary depending on your BES version, I'm working on one of the relatively recent versions of 5. It's browser based administration unlike the older version. You can usually find the same basic things in any version, my instructions might not match up exactly though...
Look the user up and clicking on the "Default Configuration" you'll see an "Organizer data syncrhonization" tab .. check the various sychronization options, they should all be enabled and the address book should specificy the mail file server/path. You can try turning off the wireless synch options here and then letting it sit a bit and toggling it back on.
If you've done that and everything checks out then have the user go back to the phone and delete the Desktop[SYNC] service book, then in the BES admin client, push service books back down to them. It's easier than a reactivation and one other thing that helps.. I will say though that some of these other steps are used more for trouble shooting ONE wayward device and it's unlikely that they would do much good if all devices are having the same problem. I would expect that users are more likely to be not set up to synch than I would expect them all to need service books pushed down to them.
