notes.css woes

Despite changing the notes.css described here: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/dominowiki.nsf/dx/how-to-modify-font-and-color-properties-of-unreadread-documents-in-notes-8.0.2
The color of unread email is not changing. I switched to a different theme and then back.. nothing. I did even download and replace my 'com.ibm.notes.branding_8.5.0.20081211-1925.jar' file with the one included on the page (link above). I have the 'full' client installed.. including Designer and Administrator. Not certain if this would make a difference.
Any hint or tip to try would be very much appreciated.
