it looks like the problem appears if you use signature within a table

I assume it's something to do with the fact that in preferences the RT field is in a table, so the pasted table gets created as a nested table, and when displaying signature in mail body, out of table, it gets displayed "funny".

If you try to create an empty table with one cell, put cursor there and add signature, you will see that it aligns correctly. Not that it is a good workaround :-/
