To me the code would look fine...
Regarding your idea of a counter, that also looks promising, but there the question arises, if the DCC will update it's references. What I mean is, what happens to the DCC if you delete a document. Will the document then also be removed from the dcc? If so, then you could also use the getFirstDocument() function, delete the doc and terminate when no doc is returned.
