verbose logging doesn't get more information...

I went into the configuration document and raised the logging level to verbose and the log don't seem to have much more information. I'm looking at the log under: messaging, mail, mail routing events.
I also tried to telnet on port 25 to the destination host from my mail server and I do get an answer.
