Hello folks,

we are preparing an upgrade from Notes 6.5.3 to Notes 8.5.2 FP3 on Windows XP machines, mainly Notebooks.

Notes 6.5.3 gets uninstalled and Notes 8.5.1 is installed into a new program folder. The personal notes files

notes.ini (with modified paths)
names.nsf
desktop6.ndk
bookmark.nsf
user.dic

are kept as the users should not loose their desktops, bookmarks etc.

When starting Notes 8.5.2 it converts desktop6.ndk to a desktop8.ndk. Then it performs a consistency check on desktop8.ndk. After the´consistency check Notes hangs at the splash screen. The progress bar is complete but nothing happens anymore.

Checking in Windows task manager I see that neither notes.exe nor nlnotes.exe do anyting at all. No processor usage, no delta in memory usageor thread or handle count. And no I/O operations.

After killing both processes and starting Notes again everything is fine. No hangs, no messages, nothing.

I observed with all of the test installations by now.

I searched the web with auntie Google as well as several Notes/Domino forums, including this one. But I couldn't find any explanations or suggestions how to avoid this behaviour.

Can you tell me what's going wrong and what I can do?
