Create a hidden view sorted by name with department as the 2nd column.
Pick the name (via @dbColumn), then do a lookup to get the department. This allows you to separate and store name and department as individual fields and provides a method to update data later (for instance the person changes departments).

What you do depends on what other functions you need the system to provide.
