Yes 8.x is a pain.. many issues.

The one I'm trying to get a clue on again is smarticons. It lets you make an icon but no where to put the code for it. Looked thru help and no help. Totally unwieldy. Seems to be made for geeks and not logical anymore. I'm amazed this one has never been put in as part of the default set.

... always have to build it now no clue how to get there.
I make a new icon in the toolbar and go thru the motions and then try to find it and it doersnt exist. Try again. the icon does not get made or goes somewhere else not obvious. I'll create a danged agent....
