possible workaround...

Thanks for the new info. It was the dialog box that was the missing piece. It appears to be long standing behavior that selectall doesn't work in the "postopen" event of a form being opened in a dialog. However, using the "entering" event of the field of interest does seem to work for the example code. Hopefully this could also work in your real application.
