Subject: How to Read AES Encrypted S/MIME Email Messages

Reproducible: Always

Does anyone have any ideas on how to read incoming email messages that are sent using S/MIME with AES encryption?

The IETF RFC 3851 for S/MIME v3.1 (dated July 2004) says AES (128, 192, and 256 bits) "should be" supported: http://www.apps.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3851.html

Additionally, Notes 8.0.1+ documents support for FIPS 140-2 and several functions in Notes support AES.

However, apparently, the Notes clients as current as 8.5.2FP2 do NOT support decryption of S/MIME email messages that use AES encryption.

Any thoughts/tips/workarounds? We simply cannot control the way users choose to send email and AES has long been the preferred method of encryption.
