Subject: Notes 8.5 Client on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid AMD64
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Notes Client
Technical Area: Install
Platform: Linux client - Ubuntu
Release: 8.5
Reproducible: Always

While I greatly appreciate the Notes team creating an Ubuntu / Debian client, I'm kind of surprised that there's no explicit support for 64-bit environments (do many people who run Linux on the desktop use 32-bit, or am I just an odd crazy person? I thought the only people still running 32-bit were the ones keeping their old Pentiums around).

I'd love to get this to work. I've tried following the suggestion given in this thread and created a chroot'd 32-bit environment (using the instructions I found here) that I can successfully run other 32-bit apps from (Synaptic, etc). I can install the .deb package for Notes, but when I try to launch the /opt/ibm/lotus/notes/notes program nothing happens.

Any troubleshooting suggestions or pointers to foolish behavior (other than trying to get this to run on 64-bit - I really do need the extra address space) would be greatly appreciated. Currently running in a virtualized Windows session...
