DNS or timeout

I suggest you first check what DNS you are using on OS level. You could try to use the google one at 8.8.8.8 instead to see if it is your DNS that got problems. There are known problems with the DNS provided by MS servers. Especially with addresses containing characters like -.

You can also try to set the SMTPTimeoutMultiplier. It gives the SMTP service more time to try deliver. http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/dominowiki.nsf/dx/smtptimeoutmultiplier.
